My awesome girlfriend did this tonight while watching the movie. She’s a wonderful designer, and you should  check out her blog here!

spinals:

Industrial designer Andrew Kim has created a new Coke bottle concept that could significantly change the sodamaker’s footprint. For every 4 bottles currently shipped, the square bottle design could ship 6. This means every shipping container could hold 4,000 more bottles of Coke. Kim also considered that Americans use 2 million plastic bottles every 5 minutes, so he made the bottle itself green. It is  100% plant based, made entirely from sugar cane byproducts. Which is amusing since Coke hasn’t been made from sugar since 1985 (via Jerry James Stone)

Everyone grab your viking helmets, because Opera Week is coming to Lancaster city, PA! Opera Lancaster is 60 years old, and to celebrate the occasion, the mayor declared April 16-22, 2012 Opera Week!
My design was chosen to represent the event and will be printed and showcased across the city to promote the event, which is pretty exciting. Hope to see you singing in the streets.

As an artist, my work is influenced by thousands of things every day. Can you possibly say that anything you do is 100% original? People dwell too much on finding similarities between your work and other things that they recognize anyway, so it’s an impossible fight in my opinion.
Just stick with what you love and don’t try to be something you’re not.

Happy Cog

I went to a presentation in Elizabethtown, PA last night for the world-renowned web developers, Happy Cog. There was a lot of information about the industry and some issues designers have when problems arise during a website development phase.

Some topics like “Client Detachment” for example, had members from the Happy Cog team telling us about their own personal experiences in dealing with clients who never return calls or start off really excited about a project and then do not follow up later (a nightmare that many freelance designers have to go through.)

It was a very enlightening period, and gave us all a good idea of what it was like working for some big name clients.

I was only able to hear about this event through AIGA, of which I am part of through my college. I recommend anyone to go check out their website, too.
